Benton County Above the Influence Coalition invites you to lunch

     Keiaffa Green, who is working with the Benton County Above the Influence Coalition and with schools in the Benton County area on substance abuse efforts, is inviting area residents to a meeting at noon on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Monkeytown. Green will discuss her program goals with interested residents. Lunch will be provided.

VPRD's Halloween Schedule and other fun activities

 Fall/Halloween Kid's Craft Day-Two hours of supervised fun and crafts! Lunch is provided.  Date: October 22           Location: Skate & Activity Center Time: 11 am-1 pm           Cost: $12/person     Ghostly Glow Mini Golf and Open Skate Halloween Costume Party  If you think putting is tough during the daytime, just think how hard it will be in the dark with ghosts and goblins in the mix! PEO Chapter MZ will meet at 1:30 PM on Monday, Oct. 24, at the home of Bonnie Rohlena assisted by Carol Timmer.  The program will be presented by Bonnie.

Haunted Hayride this weekend at Wildcat Park

  Fundraising is underway to build a shelter house at Wildcat Park (between Urbana and Shellsburg). The campers and Park Ranger, Jon; are undertaking this task with a Halloween event this weekend. The 2nd Annual Haunted Hayrack Ride at Wildcat Bluff Campground will be held, Friday and Saturday October 21st and 22nd from 7-11. Cost is $6 adult, $3 kids 12 and under.

Zion Lutheran in Shellsburg

  Zion Lutheran in Shellsburg is hosting their annual Chicken 'n Biscuit Supper at the church on Thursday, Oct. 20 serving from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. All you care to eat - chicken 'n biscuits, vegetable, salad bar & desserts (mostly homemade pies). Adults $7.00 Children 12 & under$4.00.    

Garrison still set to scare you!

The Benton County Community Foundation Announces 2011 Grant Writing Workshop

  The Benton County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, will host an informational meeting about the foundation, its grant administration process, and the application procedures for the 2012 application.      “Local residents and organizations are invited to attend this workshop as it will give an in-depth look at the application and requirements,” Ranae Becker, secretary of the Benton County Community Foundation, states.

NRA Basic Handgun Course being offered

  An NRA Basic Handgun Course will be offered on November 12th at the Izaak Walton League north of Vinton. The hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm and the cost is $40.00. The completion of the course will allow the student to be more familiar with several types of handguns and also the student can apply for a Carrying a Concealed Weapon Permit if they wish.

Spooky Sprint in Dysart to raise funds for After Prom

  There will be a 5K run to support the Union School District After Prom for all those interested runners. It's called the Spooky Sprint to be held in Dysart on Sunday, October 30th at 3:00 p.m. Pre-Register by 10/22 $15.00 includes t-shirt or after 10/22 and on race day $20.00.
